For my early birthday present Andy and I are going to see Wicked on Thursday at the Ohio Theater. We were going to go on my actual birthday in a few weeks, but I got an email about 40% off tickets for certain showings so we're getting orchestra section seats for basically the price of balcony seats. Hooray! While I'm pumped that we're FINALLY going to see this show, the one wicked (and by this I mean "wicked" bad, not "wicked" cool) thing about this whole deal is having to buy tickets through Ticketmaster. Yikes, they really scalp you. Yes, you get discounted tickets, but then they tack on $15 apiece for "convenience fees" and processing charges. Actually Ticketmaster, it's more convenient for me not to grease your palms and participate in your price-setting collusion and monopolistic practices.
But I digress. The show will still be wonderful and we'll enjoy it even more being able to actually see the show instead of squint up in the nosebleed section.
Have you seen Wicked? What's your review? I don't know any of the music from it, will that be a drawback? Do you have a favorite Broadway musical?

I've seen it twice and cried twice from excitement. I loved it. Hope you do too. I have the soundtrack if you want to prep yourself.
okay, now i must know, is that special for 40% off tickets still available??? please say yes and if you could, forward it to me??? i LOVE wicked. the music, the play, not the book, but the music and the play!!! so amazing. i cried the one time i saw it just like joni. love it.
seen it twice and loved it both times. we did get the CD and listened to it quite a bit before we saw it, but i don't think that's necessary. my girls love all the music in it too, but i'm not going to let them see it till they're older!
we have seen Wicked three times, it is by far our favorite, can't wait for you to see it! It brings so much happiness....I even bought the wicked sound track for kids...(yes there is a sound track for kids made). ENJOY IT! Take it all in.
We are going on Thursday as well! Maybe we will see you there. It's my first time as well!
I'm jealous and excited for you. Enjoy!t
Mark and I just saw it for his bday when it was here in Dallas. Despite living in the NYC area when it very first opened, we could never get in to see it but always wanted to. We were both unfamiliar w/ the music but thoroughly enjoyed it anyway. I was afraid I wouldn't get to see it since I was 9 months pregnant but we made it and it was fabulous- really glad we had good seats, too (ward member was a season tix holder and got us a deal). Have a great time!
I had the same experience yesterday, purchasing tickets to Cirque du Soleil on Ticketmaster. Booo! I'm taking Evan to see it. We keep missing opportunities to see Wicked...some day! Have fun!
We're totally there tonight, too!
How did we not know this?
You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll sing. You'll gasp. You'll love friendship more. You'll buy the CD and listen to it on repeat for the rest of your life. Basically (in my best Cape Cod) you'll have a WICKED awesome time.
I may be partial, but I can't get enough of this show! I can't wait to have a breakdown analytical session about the "depth" and metaphors of it, too. Seriously.
P.S. We booked months ago and did not get 40% off. Ticketmaster. Boo.
We saw it in Boston and loved it! So fun. You'll have a great time.
(I did not like the book at all, couldn't even finish it - but the musical is great.)
Trev bought me tickets as well for my birthday. We are going next week. No 40% percent off but I consider that a price to pay since I have been dying to see it! Can't wait to hear what you think.
It is a good show with a bit of an edge. It is, actually, a bit subversive. The basic premise is that our judgments about good and evil can't really be trusted. Everyone who is known for being "good" is bad, and everyone who is known for being "bad" is good. To make matters even more complicated, Elphaba, when she looks inside herself, can't really tell if she herself is bad or good (listen closely to the lyrics of "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" where she sings "Was I really seeking good or just seeking attention?/Is that all good deeds are when looked at with an ice cold eye?").

I am SO jealous! Hands down one of my favorite experiences! If you don't get your hands on the soundtrack before, you'll want it afterward. We listen to it non-stop. My kids love the music and story (now that I've basically told it through answering all of their questions) almost as much as I do.
Have fun!!! (((sigh)))
I'm tempted to come back just to see it.
Wicked's great. Shaun surprised me with tickets last year for my birthday. Glad you got good seats. Speaking of sTickettoyoumaster, they lost our order and the replacements seats were not as good. Still, it's a great show and the soundtrack is catchy. Let me know which one you like best.
