Look Ma, No Teeth!

Ben's been sporting a loose tooth for the past few weeks, so on Wednesday Andy decided to put his dental skills to work and pull that sucker out. We interact with lots of OSU dental students in our ward, so some of their knowledge has to rub off, right? How hard could it be? Lots of wiggling wouldn't do it, and I finally suggested the floss trick that my sister used on me when we were growing up. Namely, tie a piece of floss around the root and yank the ends apart to pop the tooth out. Sounds pretty easy and painless and it worked well, as I recall. Andy suggested I give it a shot, but teeth and blood are not my cup of tea.
After a few minutes upstairs, Ben came back down proudly sporting a hole in his grille. His first tooth out at age 5, before kindergarten even starts. I remember being in kindergarten, enviously hearing about my classmates' visits from the Tooth Fairy and wishing I could be as cool. But I didn't lose my first tooth until first grade. My mom made me a pink Strawberry Shortcake tooth pillow (just what it sounds like: A tiny pillow with a pocket in it to hold the tooth) to put under my big pillow in anticipation of the Tooth Fairy's visit. But then the magic was ruined when I was six or seven and she asked me to put the quarter under my sister's pillow after she'd lost a tooth. Belief in Santa ended quickly thereafter.

I'm not sure what the going rate is for teeth these days, but our Tooth Fairy gave Ben a quarter. Not just any old quarter, but a Canadian quarter. Granted, she didn't realize this was the case until he ran downstairs the next morning excitedly clutching the money in his fist. Maybe there's a shortage of tooth fairies in this economy and we're having to outsource the job to foreign workers. Or maybe it was dark when she rooted around in her magic moneypouch in the wee hours of the night. Can you blame her, she's working the third shift?

A missing front tooth never looked so good! A Canadian quarter huh? I say tell the tooth fairy to keep that trend until Ben realizes he's getting a raw deal. Can't hurt right? It may be short lived though. He told me he's going to by candy with his money and unless you traverse to Canada, Ben's gonna figure it out real quick.
