Our good friends, the Storeys, visited from upstate New York last weekend and Ross and Andy went to work on all of the little home projects that we've been meaning to do but haven't had the time, manpower, or expertise to tackle. Ross used to be a facilities manager at one of the local Hyatts and knows lots about repairs, which Andy was eager to learn. Their hours of work saved us tons of money in plumbing expenses and now Andy has the confidence to attempt new projects on his own. Thanks a million to Ross for his help and patience! Here are some snapshots of their work...

The first task was to assemble Ben's bunk beds. I'm just not very useful for heavy lifting these days so the men dispatched with the task in no time at all. We had the beds in separate rooms and just had to move them and bolt them together. Thank you as well to Andy's parents who gave us the beds, which are wonderfully sturdy and have taken much excited climbing and jumping. Ben now sleeps on the top bunk and Nessie slept on the bottom while the Storeys were here.

In addition to fixing our double-flushing toilet (needed a new flapper) and making the hot water in our upstairs bathtub work again (Ross worked his voodoo magic), the boys started on our leaky kitchen sink. The experts declared that we needed to get a whole new faucet, so Andy happily made the trip to Home Depot. They then spent over an hour hacking out our old nasty rusted faucet in order to install the new one.

Old faucet= corrosion

After working until midnight on Saturday, they found that the faucet we'd bought wasn't the greatest quality and that we were missing some requisite hoses to reach the hot/cold valves. So although the Storeys left Sunday morning, after two more trips to Home Depot on Monday Andy finished the job himself.

The finished product. Hooray! After three days without a kitchen sink we were really excited. I don't know how people live with major home renovations. I don't know if I could handle the chaos. Have you ever survived one? What's the biggest home project you've tackled?

oh man, remodeling is AWFUL! We had our wood floors (2 levels) sanded and restained, installed bead board, repainted every room, installed a new front door, tore out our master bath and Duston pretty much redid it himself. Among many other projects. At the same time. It was a nightmare. So glad it's over. We were a bit ambitious and really now have not a lot of desire to do anything else (at least not ourselves) :)
I love it when the honeydew list shrinks down and things are accomplished.
Thanks again for lunch yesterday, it was wonderful.
Nice job on the home repairs and happy birthday Andy!
The Storeys! We miss them so much. What a great weekend.
You possibly the most chic pregnant woman that I have ever seen! Really, you couldn't be cuter!
