Viva La Mexico

Andy and I just got back from spending a wonderful week in Mexico with some of our friends from business school. We stayed on the Riviera Maya near Playa del Carmen, about an hour south of CancĂșn and enjoyed the surf, sun, and sand. Many thanks to Andy's mom for coming out to watch Ben while we were gone (he didn't miss us one bit) and muchas muchas gracias to The Knights (and the Rockwoods) for graciously offering us the use of the condo where we stayed.

You asked for it, well you're going to get it. Probably more pictures and info than you want, but since I know there are fellow travel junkies out there, I'm happy to oblige. I'm going to do a few different entries so as refrain from overkill. Above is the view from the private beach at the condo. Much of our time was spent laying on beach chairs, bobbing in the warm ocean water and chatting, reading, feeling the wind on our faces as it rustled the palm trees, staring at the water, walking on the beach, and relaxing in the nearby pool. True paradise. Usually I am a pretty Type A traveler, always exhaustively researching where to go, needing an agenda and places to go and see, being scheduled every minute. I get it from my dad. But this trip taught me how to just chill out and do nothing at all.
Along with tennis rackets, beach bags, towels, boogie boards, and other toys, Andy found this kite in our closet and decided to take it out for a spin on a particularly windy day. As some of you might already know, Andy is a kid at heart and loves to fly kites.

Looking down the beach towards some other condos and hotels. The information we received about the location stated numerous times that topless sunbathing is allowed in the area. Thankfully we didn't see anyone on our beach and thought we would escape unscathed, but at the snorkeling beach we went to on the second to last day we saw two people letting it all hang out. Yikes! Just the gals: Jenn, Cami, me, and Kristina. We were all part of the LDSSA at business school, lived near each other, did many a kid swap, and had a babysitting co-op our second year. We are scattered to the four winds now (Boston, Houston, Columbus, and L.A., respectively), but it was great to pick up right where we left off. Some of my favorite moments were when we just sat and chatted about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
