She's Getting Married!

My older sister, Nanette, got engaged over the weekend. Her fiancé's name is Shaun Blackburn and he seems like a wonderful guy. The perfect balance for Nan, the professional no-nonsense lawyer/devilish trickster of a sister. We are really happy for Nan and can't wait for the impending nuptuals. They got engaged while on a sunset cruise up the Columbia River near our hometown in Washington state.

Here's the story of how it happended in Nan's own words: "Yes, it's a miracle! All your prayers have been answered, but mainly mom's. So here are a few pics to enjoy of the engagement plus the ring, of course. Most of you have already heard the story, but Shaun totally surprised me on a dinner boat cruise with a copy of The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins presented by the ship's captain as a ruse birthday present that had a chiseled out heart inside with the ring ribboned-in. I wasn't sure what was going on until he got down on one knee. Very sweet and romantic. My hair is everywhere, but I think youcan sense the love and excitement, and not just my hair, in the air. Looking forward to seeing all of you on 1/2/09, our tentative w-day."
The boat captain giving her the book with the ring inside. Nan had no clue.
Not a bad 30th birthday present, if I do say so myself. I love the pavé with the sapphire in the middle. Nan's always wanted a sapphire ring.
The Blue Bridge in the background. When she told me about the boat cruise, for some reason I had visions of the episode of The Office where Michael Scott takes everyone on a booze cruise. This was much more classy. :)

I agree, much more classy than that episode of The Office. :) I love the Columbia River, how romantic! I have to say, I highly approve of that use of "The Woman in White", Wilkie went a little overboard in his descriptions if you ask me. :)
