Sweet Nectar of Life

Hi, my name is Nollie and I'm addicted to Handel's ice cream. Last Saturday was one I've been looking forward to for a long time: Dollar Cone Day. We waited in line for 30 minutes, no joke, but it was worth the wait. If you live in Columbus (or anywhere in OH for that matter) and haven't been to Handel's, go now. I'm not kidding. Stand right up, walk out the door and drive down to Feder Road for your own little taste of heaven. Graeter's (another famous Midwest ice cream shop) doesn't even hold a candle to this, I promise. The things that set Handel's apart are their amazingly fresh ice cream and unbelievably authentic flavors. Chocolate cake batter is one of my new favorites. It seriously tastes like you're licking the spatula. Other favorites are Graham Central Station, Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie, Chocolate Oreo, and Coffee Chocolate Chip (are you sensing a theme?). I could keep going, but I'll stop there. It also gives you a sense for how often we frequent Handel's. Once a week and often more is our M.O. during the summer. Thankfully, it's open year round and we've been known to freeze our tushies off in the frigid Ohio winter while savoring the delectable goodness.
But if you thinking, "She's just one person. How good could this stuff really be?" In the immortal words of LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow, "You don't have to take my word for it." Yes, none other than National Geographic Traveler magazine voted Handel's the BEST ice cream in the world. Rated above Italian gelaterias and French ice cream parlors. I'm not kidding people, this is life-changing stuff. Come visit us in Columbus and I'll be more than happy to take you to taste for yourself. :)

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the fact that you love Handel's as much as we did. People would say that Bruster's was better, but HELLO! Not a chance! Chocolate cake batter, huh? Never had a chance to try that one. I have to say taht one of my favorites was their cotton candy. Sounds too sweet and juvenile, but I swear I'd eat half my kids' cones every time.

Here's the thing, though. As much as I love Handel's (and you KNOW I do), I think it doesn't hold a candle to Jeni's. Oh, speaking of which, you wanted to know my top 4 places to eat:
1)Jeni's Ice Cream (nothing like it...and they ship!)
2)Thai Orchid (I've been having dreams of that yummy soup we both love)
3)The Ocean Club (try the scallops done Oscar-style)...or really ANYTHING Cameron Mitchell--M, Molly Woo's.
4)The Northstar Cafe (have you tried the ricotta pancakes yet? If not, shame on you!)

I'll have to do a #5
Big Fat Greek Cuisina--we went there once right before we left, and I wished we could have gone there SEVERAL more times! Their Greek flatbread that comes with the meal is to die for!

This is Seth BTW - It's fast Sunday and everyone is asleep and I stumbled upon your post about Handels Ice Cream...did I mention it was fast Sunday? Anyway..I've been there myself and I have to agree...it was an experience I'll never forget. I went there on my road trip from hell, as we moved from Dallas to Boston. It was the only bright spot on the entire trip.
I'm glad you found the place and it didn't seem to take you very long. Can't wait to see you guys in a fw weeks in MX!
