Hooked

Thanks to Downton Abbey, I have been a waste of human debris for the past two days. It all started so innocently, watching the first episode in bed with Andy on Monday night. By Tuesday night I'd seen all four episodes of season one and the first episode of season two. Yes friends, that's 8 hours of TV in a day. It helped that Lucy was feeling under the weather, so I didn't feel as bad just curling up in bed with her next to me while I watched with the computer propped up on my lap. She particularly enjoyed the hunt scene. For those of you who are considering calling CPS, no, she didn't see the part with Mr. Pamuk. Eek! What was Mary thinking??? (For those of you who haven't seen it, it's a seduction scene. Definitely not R-rated, just not quite appropriate for a 2-year-old's eyes).

But it doesn't stop there. That night at 11:44, after I'd exhausted the episodes available on pbs.org, I sent this crackhead email to my sister Kaylee, who has seen all of season two via pirated versions on random European TV websites. And I quote: "What's the website to see season 2 episodes 2 and on?????? what is matthew's fiancee's secret???"

Our email chain proceeded as follows:

Kaylee-  "Hahaha your desperate email cracks me up! You and Kira both started the show yesterday and have been watching nonstop. Makes me proud! The website is tv-links.eu. Then search for downtown abbey and then a list of links will come up. Some are better than others cause of quality or time restraints. I recommend novamov, videozoer (or something like that I think), or putlocker. Those work the best. Not that I would know ;)"

Me - "I am pathetic." (Followed by a link to the PBS website where you can rate how much you like each of the characters. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/downtonabbey/season2_characters_vote.html

Kaylee - (Attached the picture posted above with this message) "Oh hello, Mathew. Looking dashing in the military garb. I'll admit it. I'm a sucker for him in this outfit. One of the best scenes happens when he's in it..."

So there you have it. I contemplated the security of the links to season 2, but threw caution to the wind and am now up to episode five. Thanks to one sketchy Russian website, my computer is most likely now riddled with viruses and spyware. I am currently exercising all the restraint I have not to go onto any other European websites to watch finish up season two. We'll see how long that lasts. I have a Sunday School lesson to prepare, but am a weak soul. Maybe this week we'll just watch a video. :) I did clean for two hours this morning to be at least somewhat productive.

ATTENTION: If you have any propensity towards the Edwardian era, refined women in elegant clothing, Englishmen in dinner jackets, any of the Jane Austen stories, soap operas, or BBC costume dramas in general, you are at risk of getting sucked into the world of Downton Abbey. You've been warned.

Ha! I have done the exact same thing the past two days. So excited for next Monday when I can watch episode two online. :)

Now my dirty secret is out! I was going to make a downton comparison with all of that, but I didn't want to spoil too much for anyone who's patiently waiting for PBS airings :)

I've been afraid to start that show because I know I won't be able to stop. Maybe after I finish BG's Christmas video and we get back from our Disneyland trip at the end of the month.

I've been using the tv links to watch old episodes of Amazing Race.

I have officially joined the ranks of those hooked on Downton Abbey. Six episodes straight tonight (thank you Netflix!) and only the need to be ready for Seminary at 7 a.m. induces me to stop watching at 1:30 a.m. Luckily, I get to sit with a friend after surgery tomorrow and will put the hand-me-down iPod to good use watching the remaining episodes. It's as enthralling as a favorite book, which I can never put down until finished.
