Last week we discovered one of Columbus's hidden gems: The Central Ohio Fire Museum. Not only is it a repository of fire history ranging from the time of bucket brigades up through hand-drawn, horse-drawn, and steam engines, but it's actually in the old Columbus Firehouse dating back to 1904. They also had lots of fun stuff for kids and Ben loved dressing up in the fireman gear, sliding down the mini pole, and ringing the fire bell. The docents also gave the adults some good fire tips. One I didn't know: If a fire starts in your oven, just turn off the heat and don't open the oven door. The fire will burn itself out because of the lack of air.

nollie-- i know you were posting pictures of ben, but i just wanted to say how cute YOU look!
Ben looks a little stripper-esque on that pole. As Chris Rock would say, you're one goal in life should be to keep your kid off the pole!
P.S. I think that sounded dirtier than I meant it. My apologies. I am a heathen.
It's probably good to expose your child early to the dangers of house fires, but just don't lay it on too strong. Mom used to show that "How to Get out Alive" video in FHE when we were little and no movie has terrified me more. I have not yet recovered. Did you know you only have one minute to get out before the smoke kills you!!!
We learned to oven thing the hard way. I'm glad they taught you that before it was too late! We almost burned my friend’s kitchen down in its entirety. We were throwing baking soda (what should have been flour) sugar, flour, water, anything we could do to get it out and flames were up to the ceiling. Luckily her husband had enough sense to shut the oven door and lock it. It was so scary! It ruined her stove though, so she got a new stove out of it!
Hey Nollie! I wish I would have made the effort to go to the museum with you guys..looks like so much fun. Sometimes with 2 kids I am a wimp! Sheesh. I'll have to make the trip with the hubby.
Looks like a lot of fun. You always seem to be doing the coolest things!
