One more day until the movie event of the year: The final installment of the Harry Potter series. For HP lovers, it's a bittersweet end, even though we all know that the books are infinitely better than their cinematic counterparts. We'll go Saturday night since having kids who wake up at the crack of dawn throws a serious wrench into the excitement of midnight premieres and all our prospective babysitters will probably be out on Friday night watching the movie themselves.
There's one part of the movie I'm particularly curious about: The scene where Harry is walking into the forest to meet Voldemort and he realizes what's inside the Golden Snitch Dumbledore left him. He puts the Snitch to his lips and finds the Resurrection Stone, whereupon his family and friends appear and stay with him as he bravely goes to meet his fate. The phrase, "I open at the close" never fails to give me chills and I bawl like a baby every time I read that scene. We'll see if the Hollywood version is as moving.
Will you be seeing the movie and when? Midnight showing, opening weekend, after the initial hype has blown over, or not at all?
Do you have a favorite scene or character from the books?
It's so fun to have something like this to look forward to. Next big movie we're anticipating: The Help

I love your posts Nollie! And I love your questions. I don't know when I'll get around to seeing the movie (my little one is still too little to leave at home and I'm not taking her with me) but I'm excited. And . . . I can't wait for The Help either! I just read it with my book club and can't wait to discuss it at our next meeting. We're all going to try to see the movie together. I wish you were in my book club :)
We are actually watching the 5th movie as I write this.. we are getting excited but probably will wait to watch it next week when the crowds aren't as busy.
I am excited for The Help as well!
I. Cannot. Wait. It hit me that the end was finally here while watching the live stream of the premiere in London last week for 2+ hours, then Laura and I hosted a movie marathon of all 7 movies that wrapped last night, and I decided to reread the last 200 pages of the 7th book during my 3 hour break today so I could have all the details fresh in my mind. I hear good reviews of this last one, and that it's epic and emotional. I have big expectations, but I am actually more excited for it after rewatching the others after not having seen any of them in a long time. You're right the books are far superior, but the last few movies are pretty darn good.
How I wish I had time for a movie marathon! No such luck, but I can listen to the audio of the last book while I prepare for the final movie. Sadly the movie will have to wait until next week, since there is no theater in the small Montana town we're visiting.
I, too, love the scene when the family reunites at the end.
we had plans already for saturday night, so we are going NEXT weekend for my birthday weekend! can't wait!
I am looking forward to this movie with all of my heart. I can't wait for the magic to unfold. I'll be in the showing at 11 o'clock your time and I promise I won't text you afterwards:) I know I'll bawl like a baby when he sees his parents and Dumbledore again.
Kaylee I wish I would have done a movie marathon or reread the last part of the book. I reread it after Part 1 but that seems forever ago!
I can't wait to discuss it with y'all.
I'm on my way out to a midnight showing with my book club! Return of the King was the last movie I sacrificed sleep to watch. We are in complete agreement that the books are superior to the movies. However, I feel a little sad to say goodbye to these actors that have helped bring a world I love to life.
Nollie we haven't seen it yet and I can't wait. This weekend hopefully. What did you think?! And I agree...The Help is the next must see! I loved your Nauvoo post. I can't believe how many people have been there before me (:
