Mormon Women Project: Ruth Wise

My second interview for the Mormon Women Project got posted today so you can all read about one of my favorite people in the whole world. Ruth and I met during our first year in Boston and she was a true godsend: A friend when I needed it, an inspired visiting teacher, and one of the most positive, intelligent, humorous people I've ever met, even though she spent four months of the year on bed rest to prevent her from going into early labor. One of my most vivid memories is when her doctor gave her the green light to get up and moving again, so she came over to our apartment where we proceeded to make a chocolate cherry cake. She went into labor that night and we've joked since then that chocolate cherry cake is what to eat when you want your baby to make its grand entrance. I first met Ruth in our Sunday School class when her husband mentioned that he is from a small town in Eastern Washington, 45 minutes from my hometown of Kennewick. Sunnyside is very rural, but had a great little dress shop where I found one of my homecoming dresses for high school. I teased her husband that he must be the pride of Sunnyside since he was starting Harvard Law School and our friendship with the Wises proceeded from there.

You know that people have mastered another language when they can joke in the foreign tongue. Ruth can do so and it's just one of the many impressive things about her. Read the article to discover why she's one of my heroes.

Who do you look up to?
