A Little Help

Yes, I know my blog needs lots of help, so to avoid getting overwhelmed with all that needs to be caught up on, I'll just give a tiny book recommendation. I'm almost done with The Help and it's the best book I've read in a while. Let's just say that I've read 350 of 450 pages since Friday afternoon. The characters are engaging, the storyline engrossing with interweaving tales set in a pivotal point in American history (Jackson, Mississippi 1962), and the author offers multiple mysteries and tidbits that keep you reading to find out how everything resolves. Go here for a synopsis and get on the waiting list at your library because it's been named on multiple reviews as one of the best books of 2009. Let me know if you've read it and what you thought, or if you're waiting for your chance to dive in. I've spent many a cozy hour in my bed or on the couch this weekend curled up with my copy.

Have you read anything else good lately? Any favorite books of 2009?

I loved this one. I listened to it on audio. Excellent. Have you ever read The Glass Castle? So good, also. I am on hold for the author's new book.

I'm reading Outliers right now and it's really interesting. I'll let you know when I finish. Otherwise I'm reading Professional Editing, I DON'T recommend it:)

That one is on my list, thanks for the endorsement.

I just finished a FANTASTIC book called The Girl From Foreign by Sadia Shephard. It is a fascinating memoir written by a Pakistani-American woman (who grew up in Newton and graduated from HS the same year I did) who travels to India to learn about her Islamic grandmother's Jewish origins in India. Beautifully written, very compelling story. One of those books that you are sad to finish reading. I highly recommend it!

Oh, and I second the recommendation for the Glass Castle--it is excellent! Can you tell I'm a memoir junkie?

Okay, so glad for the glowing review, been looking for a new read.

What was my favorite book of 2009? Oh my goodness, do I dare name a Stephanie Meyer? No, no, I can't bring myself to. I did love the Hunger Games, but was it my fave?

I've got to get in touch with you--booked my ticket to C-bus and dinner plans with you is the next priority. :-)
