The past few weeks we've had some experiences that reminded me of children's books that we've read recently.
Last week I felt like the bear. All I wanted to do was eat (carbs - and lots of them!), sleep, and have everyone leave me alone. Basically: To hibernate. For some reason I was extremely tired and cranky and took naps almost every day. Unlike in the story, there were no friendly woodland creatures frolicking around our house, but it would have been nice to have someone else take care of the cooking and cleaning. Maybe it was my penchant for staying up way too late or the cold and dreariness hitting me with full force. Either way, thankfully my mom was just a phone call away to listen to me vent and I can happily say that this week has been much better.

Ben saw the beautifully illustrated sugar cookies and wanted to make some of our own. I admire all you moms out there who regularly cook with your kids. How do you do it? We don't bake much since Ben can't eat most baked goods and what with the mess, I often feel like it's more of a hassle than it's worth. I'm a scrooge, I know. But this time I decided to bite the bullet and go for it, and we had lots of fun. I think I'll be ready to make some again by next Christmas.
Since I can't get the pictures to post in order, here are the finished products. Ben wanted to make them for his friends at preschool and frosted the pink ones himself. By Ben's choice, our shapes were pumpkins and hearts. We threw a few gingerbread men and Christmas trees in there as well so his classmates wouldn't be totally confused about the occasion.

I don't know why, but sometimes people can't see the large pictures, but I post the whole set of each shoot in an online album you can get to on the right-hand side of our family blog "Your Photo Albums", basically, little Maizie looks exactly like Lincoln, so cute!!!
Yes, my life can currently be best described by the children's classic, "Everybody Poops." Thank you.
Bekka,
Do explain.
You should check out a little book called "Backward Day." It is true to my life, for sure, and such a cute book.
I think the book "The Seven Silly Eaters" comes to mind. Partly because of the fantastic chaos in the pictures (even though she has 7 kids, and I'm only juggling 2 1/2), but also because my boys tend to fixate on certain foods that I feel like I'm fixing for every meal. For Will, it's toast or pancakes, and for Spence, it's usually cereal. (At least they're easy!) Also, the part where the mother is dragging herself wearily to bed the night before her birthday. TOTALLY relate to that! :) Plus, it really is one of my all-time favorite children's books!
Nollie -
I found your blog from Nanette's blog and I just loved getting to read about you and your family. Your son is very cute! Hope I get to see you soon at Nanette's reception.

If there were a book entitiled "I stayed up WAY TOO LATE last night watching movies and now it's sunday and I'm PAYING for it," then that would be me and Curtis.
Why do kids have so much energy??
Why won't they just go to bed so I can too?
I know, I'm not a good mom today. But Curtis and I just barely started watching DVDs of The Office and I NEEDED to see what happened with Jim and Pam.
THEY KISSED!
